In case you’re wondering what this Seven show is all about, I’ll share my perspective with you here.
Artist Statement
I see a truth that shimmers just beneath the surface. I don’t know if others can see it. I only know that I’m compelled to look at it and to draw your attention to it.My work is photographs, both old and new, textures, colours and scribbles of pencil and pastel. Reused materials and an enjoyment of nature’s imperfections of are key elements of my creative process. Much thought goes into each work, but the realization is quick and emotional – reactive to the materials in hand and done with childhood abandon, as free of adult judgment as I can possibly be.
Artist Interpretation for Seven 2007
We began in January – all slipping into the row boat – willing. Ferrying ourselves on uncharted waters – creative process as individuals and as a collective. My interpretations of each word now solid in my brain – some already manifest on the far shore. Reclaimed windows from my Victorian home have been piled high in my inner being, demanding to be of service. Multiple images, repeating images, squares, grids, greens and pinks, scribbles have all been criss-crossing my mind from the beginning. Photographs of my past works and life – re-claimed, re-examined, re-positioned into squares and grids, catalogued by frames, edges and scribbled lines. Catalogues delineated by grids of scribbled lines – not bold straight lines. Linking, meandering and ephemeral. Catalogues of my things, my thoughts, my needs, my people, my work, my desires. Our words – each word, carries awesome weight – meaning and emotion beyond naming. The longer I’ve contemplated these words, the heavier each has become. My word is Serendipity. Serendipitous occurrences are the signs posts along my life’s journey – my indicators that I’m moving in the right direction. Complicated and tenuous, grids and lines intersect. Connection points – serendipity. One journey meets another. Catalogues are compared and we move on from that point.

With 2007 drawing to a close, I reflect on my progress of the past year and chart my course for 2008. The big deal this year was participating in Seven and our first annual show, held this year at Argyle in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our opening reception was well attended with great support and a good buzz. Media coverage has been more than we had hoped for. We made the Halifax Daily News:

In 2007, I was delighted to increased my client base in Halifax and expand my client base to the west coast and into the southwestern United States.
2007 has been a very gratifying year.
